I’m intrigued with the way in which the studio space has been divided up at college and the negotiations and subtle battles which have ensued. I was lucky enough to bag a whole little room area which was dark at the time but I’ve had that problem remedied. It’s kinda solitary but I can hear everyone and frequently go on walkabout to chat with people. The best thing is that my area is just that…an area where I can make stuff and not just a wall so I don’t feel too confined to only two dimensions. Anyway, thinking about these territories of ours reminded me of dogs cocking their legs on lamp-posts and the sexual and territorial nature of this behaviour. Since I had a post in my area I decided to cover it in sexually explicit material which I then wettened and scraped to make it look more weathered and seedy. I then thought of a cat’s scratching post: more territorial behaviour and I often think of the girls in porn magazines as rather feline so I made a pom pom to hang next to the post as a bit of fun.

The porn is only on my side of the post to show which side of the territory is mine but also that it is a little secret. Porn is often found hidden and I wanted this to be a strange juxtaposition between the publicly and privately erotic. Should one be seeing this or not?
