Representations of Identity

I am currently showing one of my under-sink-cupboard paintings at the first WAM (Women’s Art Movement) exhibition at the Islington Art Factory. It’s a wonderfulspace with beauiful sweeping archays. The exhibition runs from the 8th August until September 5th. It’s called Representations of Identity. Most of the artworks are very obviously feminine. I was very pleased to have mine positioned at the ‘gateway’ to the exhibition. I see it as a representation of my identity because it encapsulates not only my childhood excitement of exploration but also my sexuality as a grown woman. The exhibition worked beautifully as a whole. I particularly enjoyed the work of Marie Maynard, the founder of WAM who displayed her brilliant glass and projection piece and the exquisite feminine beauty of Fiona Barone’s drawings.
