The Subconscious Art Of Graffitti Removal
I saw the most wonderful film today. It’s written and directed by Matt McCormick and well worth a look. It has a very wry humour about it and although in many ways it’s ridiculous, describing graffitti removal as “one of the more intriguing and important art movements of the early 21st century” , it also reminds me very much of the type of day to day art that I was trying to express in my Urban Flux series.
The narrator describes how the city workers, covering graffitti with paint are creating their own works of art, unconsciously. Or, the graffitti artists and the municipal workers are creating huge collaborative projects over the city and over the years. The examples are related to the work of Rothko and you can really see why. I found the film really amusing because it’s so very nearly true!
