Which do you prefer?

I was originally planning to make this painting purple but I rather liked the alienation from the subject matter that the blue colouration gives. I find that the patterned flat plane makes the painting appealing whilst the subject matter is rather repellant so that the viewer is torn. I decided to paint snakes for my orgiastic representation series because they seemed the obvious choice due to the symbolic uses of snakes in literature throughout the ages. They seemed wholly appropriate to me. I can also imagine being absorbed into this scene which appeals to the claustrophila theme I’ve been looking into. The question is though; is the use of snakes just a trope?
