Here is some of my work from my Whiteways project.

This album shows images from my whiteways art project. The first task was to take a white item of clothing and change the meaning of half of it in some way. I took a white fish net stocking which I think of as a youthful and sexy item of clothing. I sewed the bottom of it shut rendering it impossible to actually use. I used hand spun, natural wool turning the bottom of it into an old ladies’ frumpy stocking. The top of it is machine made and regular with man made fibre and the bottom contasts with this by being natural and irregular. I also took a pair of alluring white lacy knickers and attached sharp plastic spikes to them! They are my 21st Century chastity knickers. I like the contrast between the soft and alluring with the sharp and prohibitive. The glue gun left stands of glue which I kept and wrapped around the spikes as women sometimes say “it’s been so long, I’ve got cobwebs down there!” I then tried recreating the spikes on different materials with different media. I then developed these ideas until I did my somewhat conceptual heart rate monitor piece using sand representing the sands of time.

I have heard it said that the first ingredient of success - the earliest spark in the dreaming youth - is this: dream a great dream
