This piece is based upon a book called "The White Hotel". It is about psychoanalysis following horrors that happened to the Jews during the Second World War. It explores themes of morphic resonance and the collective unconscious. Sometimes we keep our memories and mementos in a drawer and lock them away but these memories can't be locked away as the fingers stand higher than the drawer.

That is an interesting idea from the book, I like the way you use the red string through your work as a theme. The horrors of human history are terrible indeed.
I can see how some old white chipboard might look like a drawer in the piece, and I'm guessing that 'hotel' is an assylum and the people there are tied and controlled by that red thread from the outside.
"morphic resonance and the collective unconscious" - perhaps that means something particular to the reader in psychological terms or academic papers on consiousness, but what does it mean in normal human language?
I prefer your excellent paintings, because they show a trained eye.
Also, because one can engage with your paintings rather more easily.
Sorry if my comments are not to your liking, I prefer to comment on all work in an honest way if I can.
Cheers.
Hi Ben, no I'm not offended by your comments at all. Each to their own. I prefer not to explain too much about works like these so as to provoke interpretations such as yours which I think is superb! I am running along with a theme of red thread and ribbons at the moment as I feel that they are evocative of so many causes and emotions.
Morphic Resonance is a theory by Rupert Sheldrake which is strongly disputed by the scientific community. It suggests that are thoughts are physical waves that can travel through space and time which can explain phenomena such as groups of animals learning things around the globe at similar times, why you know who is calling before you pick up the phone and why your dog or cat knows when you are about to come home even at an unexpected time.
