This was meant to be an underpainting for a bold goldfish painting with a palette knife. I was experimenting with a new technique. Now I don't know what to do as it shines copper in some lights and glows green in others and has an amazing texture to it. Of course this doesn't all come across in the photo. I know my old art teacher would tell me to leave it and I certainly don't want to slap a goldfish on it now so what should I do? Any suggestions gratefully received!

This is 100% oil on canvas

I have no idea what you could do with it, but it looks great so am tempted to say leave it. Perhaps you should try painting in thunderstorms again, so that this isn't the only one you have - you may end up with a fantastic series!
Thanks very much Louise! It's still muggy here so maybe there'll be one again tonight! I think I should try it again so I'd better crack on and get some underpainting done.
nothing wrong with it as is.. minimal! excellent textural and color effect.. reference minimal artist mark rothko.
Very interesting colors. I'm a little confused...is this on the lawn?
The Continuum
If this is on a canvas, then I would grab a few colors that go well with it and splash them on to see if I get a good Jackson Pollock type of painting. If it has potential, it is as a background.

Maybe I would still go on with the gold fish, sorry, I can't be much of a help:-(

looking forward for the outcome of this:-)
I'm very into nonfiguration just now, so I'm biased but I'd say leave as is. Very very nice.
when indoubt provide a 3rd option. Maybe something you hadnt thought of bfore?
I've done this before and I'd say go ahead and paint something on to it. The underpainting will have a story behind it and that's cool.
This looks great as it is; I'd leave it!
This is a very mysterious background. Maybe use some transfer images?
